Spoiler Alert: Don't trust the voices in your head

_______________________________________________________

A common theme I read about this summer was, well, girls who have traumatic pasts that eventually boil to the surface and cause psychological damage. The main character in this story, is probably the most damaged of all. Blaming herself for her mother’s death and barely talking to her dad, she begins to hear voices. A voice to be exact, and this voice doesn’t exactly show mercy. Once she begins to seek help she meets a friend, but when her friend goes missing she knows she must take action. Of course, she meets a boy along the way as well. In fact the whole story is an apology email explaining to him why she did what she did. So despite the main character being broken and certifiably insane, I learned a lot from what she went through. That we have to face our pasts eventually and that we won’t always know the ending to our stories. Even though the book ends on a cliff-hanger and we never know if the boy forgives her (which was a bit disappointing) I had fun reading about this girl’s crazy messed up life, and I like to think that she’s better now, that there was a time for her being broken, and now it’s her time to be glued back together.

Favorite quotes: “Think of this as the most screwed-up love letter ever.” ~~ “I mean, she was just cool, you know? And she didn't even mean to be. She was just a hundred-watt lightbulb in a world of forty-watt bulbs. She shone.” ~~ “Hi," I said, IN SCINTILLATING DIALOGUE REMINISCENT OF THE CLASSIC MOVIE CASABLANCA.”
