Spoiler Alert: In order to truly escape you can't just walk away, you have to break out, kicking and screaming.

This book was by far one of my favorites this summer. The novel tells the story of a young girl who only has had one friend since she was nine. When she has to leave him for the summer, she’s not sure how she will deal with it. As a result she starts to have “episodes,” in which she’ll zone out, or in one case almost get run over by a car. As she figures out the truth to her past and makes a shocking realization she also learns that as safe as it is in her own little world, she has to escape it. I loved everything about this book, from the brutal standpoint of the protagonist, to the fact her home town was “foggy Monterey.” I was just as surprised as her at most parts, and this book was definitely a winner.

Favorite Quote: “You're like a tour guide for reality.”
